Spotify is a digital music, podcast, and video
service that gives access to millions of
songs (maybe Billions) and other content from
around the world.

 

  • Spotify’s music includes
    disgusting lyrics, adult content and unspeakably horrific
    behaviour.
  • Spotify has videos–
    not JUST music videos!
  • Album pictures have explicit imagery.
  • Spotify podcasts have explicit
    content.
  • Parental controls are not
    reliable    – and even if it does gets better (spoiler alert – it won’t) it is
    super easy to just open a new account, as Spotify has a free tier.
  • Even with a proper
    filter, these issues cannot be addressed.

These problems are not unique to Spotify. All secular music app have most –
if not all of the same issues. As for
the overarching question of secular music in a Halachic context, the best
place for accurate information is your Rebbi, Rav, Morah, or Hacham.

Verdict: Don’t use! These do
not belong in a Jewish home.

Is this a Scam?

Look out for these signs. If you see them –
it’s a SCAM!
1. They contact you
first. It’s easy for scammers to fake a phone number or an
email address.
2. They offer something too
good to be true.
3.
They ask for
your personal information. Scammers can use this info to
steal your identity and cause big problems for you.
4. They want money
upfront.
5. They want you to send money
or gift cards.

Remember,
scammers often target people who might not know better, like older
less-savvy individuals. Tell your family and friends about scams so they can
stay safe.
